Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder commonly known as ADHD , is a mental road block that causes the person to have an inability to concentrate. Often, a general lack of interest is the cause of someones inattentiveness, however, with ADHD it is not a choice, it does not matter how interested the person may be in the subject, they simply cannot force themselves to pay attention. Although nobody has been able to explain what causes ADHD, there have been many studied performed in order to determine it as a "real" disorder, studies have shown a difference in the brains of those with ADHD compared to those without it. Neuroimaging shows the ADHD brain to have lower cerebral volume, and clearly showed loss of the normal asymmetry in the size of the caudate nucleus. This proves that ADHD is a condition that should not be ignored. The issues that come along with it cause the disorder cause serious stress, but luckily there are many ways to treat the disorder, and "work with it" for example, studies show that people who have ADHD learn best when the information they need to recieve is in put into chunks, rather than them having to read too much between the lines. Also, cognitive behaviour theropy is also known to be effective in treating the side effects. It is not something that can be cured, yet, however if it affects a person so much that they can't get through days without breaking down, there is medication that your doctor can provide you in order to keep stability and allow the person to live their life and not have it interupted by ADHD.
I think often when anyone of us hears about a disorder of any kind we automatically create our own idea of what it is. I think these posts of yours are really good for giving us the proper knowledge. Do you know if ADHD is hereditary and/or what is the difference between ADHD and ADD?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is known to be hereditary, but not always. The difference is the "HYPERACTIVITY" aspect of it.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of contraversy over this mental road block. I find a lot of people feel ADD is just an excuse for procrastinators, and those who can't focus on the task at hand. From this assumption, a lot of people assume they have this road block simply because they are reluctant to get some thing done.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think on this? Does everyone have a degree of ADD?
controversy* ...oops
