Autism
Autism is a spectrum disorder, which means that it's severity depends on the person. On the lowest side of the spectrum is Aspergers syndrome, with is a very mild form of Autism, often the person has a high IQ, yet has difficulty learning how to act socially acceptable, they lack the ability to read social cues and are often socially inept. on the more severe side of the spectrum there is non-verbal autism, which is about as serious as autism can be. These children may likely never develop speech, and if they do- their autism is so serious that they will not be able to speak about very much, because they will eventually lose the information that they once processed. There is a huge controversial argument that states that the cause of autism is due to a negative reaction to immunization, which contains a Mercury based preservative called Thymarisol, which some people may be allergic to, this vaccination is said to cause a problem with some intestines, causes they to produce a harmful chemical that rushes to the brain. However, nobody is sure what exactly causes Autism, but it certainly needs to be discovered because the percentage of people with autism is raising rapidly around the world, one in every 150 people develop autism. This shows that it should be taken very seriously, because there are so many sufferers who struggle everyday with simple things such as learning to tie their shoes. This needs to end, treatment must be found in order to help these people stabilize their lives.

I like that you mention the broad spectrum of autism and that it is not always a severe case. It is certainly very alarming to see how the autism rate is so high now especially because we're nowhere near a solution.
ReplyDeleteMy younger sister was very ill growing up. Due to her constant bedridden condition she was never able to develope proper social skills, but her mannerism often had people questioning if she had ausitim. I'm glad you mentioned the broad spectrum, because doctors were never sure how severly affected she was, and it wasn't until test results came in that she actually wasn't disabled at all.
