Mental roadblocks from Dyslexia
We have all heard the term "Dyslexia" and often it is associated as a condition that causes the reader to see words and letters backwards. However, there is a lot more to it than that. Did you know that there are 3 fundamental types of Dyslexia? each form affects people in different ways. Here are the three types: Dysnemkinesia which effects motor control, Dysphonesia which is a deficit in ones ability to pronounce and distinguish sounds. Lastly, there is Dyseidesia which is a form of Dyslexia that effects people visually. Dyslexia causes mental roadblocks for everyone who suffers with the learning disorder, however, it varies from mild to severe Dyslexia. Often people who are not educated on the topic will brand a child as lazy or careless, which cause the people with dyslexia to feel even more stressed than they already are. Can you imagine wanting to be able to do things you're expected to do, and not be able to do it- and on top of that, teachers and classmates accuse you of not trying. All brains are wired differently, and we must not allow any prejudices to be placed upon anyone in a classroom, because for all you know- that person who is being labeled as "lazy" or "careless" are the students who care the most, and have to think extra hard to figure out things that come natural to others. That doesn't sound like laziness to me.

Do you know if people can ever 'outgrow' this disorder or if there is medication that can potentially 'cure' it? I definitely agree with your last point. Well done.

ReplyDeleteAs you said, most often when people hear the term "Dyslexic" they assume that the person has trouble reading and writing, is this the most common form of Dyslexia? I like that this post is equal parts informative and passionate opinion, it makes for a well rounded read.
ReplyDeleteThanks!

ReplyDeleteI always wondered what people with visual dyslexia see. Can you explain, or supply a picture on how?
